- Saltine crackers: This is the base of the toffee!
- Butter
- Brown sugar: I like to use dark brown sugar for that rich toffee flavor.
- Chocolate chips: With the sweetness of the sugar, I prefer semisweet chocolate.
- Pecans: They add a nutty crunch to the toffee, making it irresistible.

Step by Step Directions
For the full recipe instructions, scroll down to the bottom of the blog post to the recipe card.
- Line a baking pan with saltine crackers.
- Combine the butter and sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Continue to boil for at least 3 minutes. Stir with a whisk to incorporate the butter and sugar.
- Immediately pour the hot mixture over the crackers and bake at 400 degrees F for 6 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Let the chips sit for 5 minutes the melted chocolate over the crackers and toffee.
- Sprinkle the top with chopped pecans.
- Allow the mixture to cool until the chocolate hardens. You can also put it in the refrigerator to speed up the process.
- Break or cut the toffee into pieces.

Tips For Success
- If your toffee is grainy, it likely wasn’t cooked to the right temperature. This will cause the sugar to crystallize and turn grainy.
- If the crackers are soggy, the toffee was likely not mixed well. Whisk vigorously until the toffee starts to boil. Then stop whisking and let the toffee cook.
