Cut butter into the dry ingredients until coarse crumbs form. Mix buttermilk with egg and vanilla then drizzle over mixture.
MAKE THE DOUGH
Add just enough of the liquid to form a shaggy dough. It shouldn't be too wet or sticky but just moist enough to hold together.
Pat the dough into a circle then cut into 8 triangles.
Brush the tops of shaped scones with heavy cream then bake to golden perfection
