Spiced Apple Upside-down Cake

Infused with cinnamon and nutmeg, this Spiced Apple Upside-Down Cake features apples baked into every bite. It will quickly become a fall favorite!

FOR THE TOPPING

Unsalted butter Light brown sugar Ground cinnamon Ground nutmeg Tart baking apples

Cook butter, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until melted. Spread into bottom of pan then layer with sliced apples.

STEP 1

FOR THE CAKE

Cake flour Baking powder & baking soda Salt, cinnamon, & nutmeg Unsalted butter Granulated sugar Maple syrup Vanilla extract Large eggs Apple cider Tart baking apples

Cream the butter and sugar. Beat in the maple, vanilla, and eggs. Sift in the dry ingredients alternating with the cider. Fold in the apples.

STEP 1

Smooth batter over top of apples in prepared pan.

STEP 2

Bake at 350°F until golden. Cool in pan for 5 minutes then invert onto serving platter.

STEP 3

Like its pineapple cousin, this apple cake is dense yet tender, with not only apple flavors but apples in every single bite.
