Graham cracker cookie bars smothered with white chocolate, semisweet chocolate, pecans, and dried berries. A fruity spin on the classic magic bars.
You guys!! You are going to go nuts over this version of magic bars.
Magic bars are also called seven layer bars. They are a graham cracker cookie layered with chocolate, coconut, nuts, and butterscotch. And then sweetened condensed milk is poured over the top.
Today, I made my version. It’s a whole new ball game here. Not your traditional magic bar.
Here’s what I’ve done.
Since you need to have a sturdy base to hold all of the delightful layers, I made a thick graham cracker cookie base. I crumbled up cinnamon graham crackers into fine crumbs. I mixed those crumbs with flour, brown sugar, butter, baking powder, and an egg. Viola! The perfect cookie base.
Now to the best part. The layers.
Layer, dried mixed berries, white chocolate, semisweet chocolate, and pecans over the crust. Sounds amazing already, doesn’t it?
Now pour some sweetened condensed milk over the top. As the bars bake the condensed milk will thicken like caramel, holding all of the layers in place.
As always, the hardest part is waiting for these bad boys to cool so you can cut into them. Yes, you must wait. I know! I’m sorry! Gah…
The bars need to cool completely or they will fall apart as you cut them.
These sweet, chocolaty, caramel-y, fruity bars are purely magic. Enjoy!
Mixed Berry Magic Bars
Graham cracker cookie bars smothered with white chocolate, semisweet chocolate, pecans, and dried berries. A fruity spin on the classic magic bars
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter softened
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar packed
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup cinnamon graham cracker crumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup dried mixed berries
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
- 1 cup pecans chopped
- 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
Preheat the oven to 325ºF. Line a 9x9-inch square baking pan with aluminum foil, leaving a 1-inch overhang. Spray the foil with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
Beat together the butter and sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, graham cracker crumbs, and baking powder. Stir with a whisk. Gradually mix the flour mixture into the butter mixture until combined. Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
Layer the berries, chocolate chips, white chocolate, and pecans over the crust. Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Remove from the pan by the foil overhang and slice into bars.
