What are your plans for the holidays? Are you hosting dinner this year? Are you in charge of bringing dessert to your friend or family’s get-together? I think we are having Thanksgiving at our place with a couple of friends. I’m excited to cook for more than just my husband and myself.
As excited as I am about preparing a Thanksgiving feast, I know that hosting can be overwhelming. I’ll be responsible for preparing an entire meal with loads of prep work. Let’s not even talk about the cleanup. That is why I’ve decided to take a shortcut with dessert!
If you plan to host dinner yourself, or you’re in charge of bringing dessert, this cheese ball recipe is for you!
This dessert cheese ball is stunning and it can be ready in a matter of minutes. You can make it ahead and store it in the refrigerator until it’s ready to be served. Set it on a serving platter with graham crackers, and watch as your guests happily gobble it down.
The filling is made with cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, milk, and instant pudding mix. I use cheesecake flavored pudding mix, but almost any flavor will work. You could use vanilla or butterscotch. I might try it with chocolate next.
The cheeseball’s exterior is the star of the show. It’s coated in dried cranberries and Planters Deluxe Mixed Nuts which include cashews, almonds, brazil nuts, pecans, and pistachios. With their unique combination of good fats, dietary fiber, and vitamins and minerals, nuts make a deliciously powerful addition to any holiday festivity. So don’t forget to incorporate them into your holiday season!
The crunchy, salty nuts add a wonderful balance to the cool, creamy cheesecake filling. Make sure you get a good amount of nuts in each scoop so you get the full effect of the crunchy, creamy contrast.
Dessert Cheese Ball with Cranberries and Mixed Nuts
- In a large mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese and butter with an electric mixer on high speed until well blended. Add the pudding mix and powdered sugar. Beat on low speed until the dry ingredients are incorporated. Add the milk and beat on high for 3-4 minutes, until the filling is well mixed.
- Line a small bowl with plastic wrap. Place half of the cranberries and half of the mixed nuts into the bowl. Use your fingers to mix together and spread the evenly over the bottom of the bowl and slightly up the sides. Scrape the cheese ball filling into the bowl over the nut mixture. The filling will be sticky. Mix the remaining cranberries and nuts together, and sprinkle over the top of the filling. Pull the plastic wrap loose from the bowl and wrap the cheese ball tightly. Mold it gently into a ball and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Serve on a platter with graham crackers.
